From Students for the Bernard Field Station Wiki

Students for the Bernard Field Station is a grassroots group created to ensure the protection of the Bernard Biological Field Station (BFS) in perpetuity. The BFS is the land located on Foothill Blvd. across from Harvey Mudd. Unofficially, the BFS is 86 acres of varied ecosystems used by the Claremont Colleges and the community for academic purposes. Officially, the BFS is the only the middle 45 acres of the unofficial BFS (confusing, we know). These 45 acres, plus and additional 30 acres to the right are owned by the Claremont University Consortium (CUC). The remaining 11 acres on the Western side of the BFS are owned by Keck Graduate Institute. The land was given to the school when it became a member of the CUC.

As it stands now, the BFS is at risk. Though there are no development plans that we are currently aware of, development is always an option. In Southern California where most of our open spaces have been bought up for development, the BFS is a rare and valuable resource to our community. Please help us raise awareness about this threatened land by getting involved with our group. Please be on the lookout for emails next semester with our new meeting time and location.

Expect Resistance!
